Scenario of government sponsorship. School Feeding Government Intervention in Kenya.

The government has sponsored school feeding in ASAL regions for many decades from the 1980s until 2009 when WFP transitioned ownership back to the government. This was through models like cash transfers. Recent engagements by CS Machogu have seen the ASAL region gain support from the current administration while signing an MoU with Nairobi County. Other county governments have also put into place ECD feeding programs.

Scenario of parent’s sponsorship in private schools Parent role. Parents are for the longest time the main stakeholder in school feeding. The view from my interviews in private schools is that parents play a key role through fee payment to enable school organized feeding interventions.

Scenario of parents in public schools. Public schools continue to be left behind in terms of school feeding and mainly rely on parents' responsibility to feed their children. This scenario can be burdened with vulnerabilities that revolve around socio-economic situations. Household food insecurity also affects children who do not benefit from school interventions.

Scenario of NGO sponsored. The NGO sector visible efforts to support the intervention through funding and implementation of programs. Through different models, NGOs are enabling children to receive lunches in schools.
