Modern-day Internal Organizing

A poll by Trends and Insight for Africa (TIFA) research firm showed that 31 % of Kenyans think we are heading in the right direction while 48 % think otherwise. In hindsight, it was good timing for such a poll. First, because we are experiencing difficulties in the economy and second, we seem to need direction as a country. Who has shaped our direction? It can be assumed, the presidents, political party formations, the church, media, and other institutions have continually shaped our story. And perhaps youths’ silence and occasional uproars.

The first internal organizing pre-independence is way gone. The Mau Mau and the leaders of that period played their part in starting the nation off, however good or bad. 60 years later, our development story is hanging on a balance. Weighed quite unfavorably with ills of poverty, tribalism, unemployment, and corruption that water down progress.

Like the 1910-50s, there is a far call for modern internal organizing in Kenya. One that will lead the country in a direction where all the people within its borders experience the prosperity it can produce.

The internal organizing should create a maturity that raises the bar for our constitution, counties, leaders, and institutions, not forgetting the livelihoods of the people. This will be unusual for our long-held faulty culture, but moving on must happen.

As many as are of the opinion say ‘’aye’’. And, the land will solemnly nod, so be it.
