The Hotter Seat in Kenya

Writing this piece earlier in the year, the prompt to post it lacked, perhaps in the spirit of let’s watch and see how the new government settles in. It’s now a year since inauguration of the administration and score cards are showing up from the research polls and political spaces. The optimism in the country is dented. But I’ll give my take what I believe transcends the current hardships in the nation. My previous post on The Modern Day Organizing is partly a thread of these ideas.
No one is talking about the hotter seat in Kenya. The seat of the president. It is evident that there is a hotter seat since the promulgation of the devolved system. The seat in Kenya calls for a regime that will steer the national and county governments almost seamlessly, harnessing resources for taking the nation into a developed future.
Onwards, it would be unsurprising to see leadership that takes up the seat and faces diverse challenges from the word go, even with political cards dealt with.
The one seat that connects to forty-seven other touch points in the nation. Forty-seven potential revenue sources, human capital, natural resources, and leadership avenues.
The more county governments are demanded to deliver on services
The economic tell tales of failing to maximize delivery, the high public debt, growing taxation measures
The ills of corruption and tribalism become unrestrained at county level
The failed BBI to remedy winner take it all problem in presidency that the 4th president sought
The power centers created at counties project more than the demand of resources for development.
We see a presidential role that builds thing through projects but fails to build its people
Youth population drowning in unemployment and hopeless
What we need is a government that’s ready to serve all Kenyans
The devolved units will require a revolutionized development and leadership strategy for Kenya.
A presidency that will revolutionize the national government to be the bigger wheel that turns the smaller cogs of county wheels for the service of people.
A new way of presidency.
