The Young President

Enter, William Samoei Ruto. The president of Kenya whose receivership of instruments of power was an unlikely, just but on the surface. His first steps into corridors (literally) of power inspired his youthful political dreams. It would seem even that he was our second-inspired president of the land after Jomo. After university, he dabbles his feet in party politics.

His first ambition for the presidency emerged in the early 90s and 2000s. He served as a member of parliament. He is noted for his oratory skills that set him apart very early on and have been key in his political journey.

The maneuvers closer to the big seat build-up and being a vice president became a reality after the 2013 elections on running for office alongside Uhuru Kenyatta.

The political barriers to his ambitions did not faze his antenna directing him towards the big seat. Hop step and jump and he is the 5th president in our modern politics in a timely manner armed with the hustler narrative that was a first, pinned on economic issues.

In August 2022, he clinches power, a dream fulfilled.

He is the one president I have desired to shake hands with and say ‘Well done Mr. President, we never saw it coming’. I’m sure he will give a wide grin and quip in a friendly tone, ‘Hii maneno niliwaambia’.

That conversation will probably lead to me picking his brain on the trending issues in the country. No doubt I would get interesting perspectives considering his speeches on matters such as climate change and finance for Africa.

I keep the excitement of watching this new tenure unfold from a national perspective because the building blocks are being set for the next decade. Oh God bless this our land and nation.
